Activity in Dandeli

Nature walks and birdwatching

  • Year-round; best after the monsoon and in winter
  • Forest trails around Dandeli and Ganeshgudi
  • 1–3 hours

Dandeli’s mixed forests are a favourite with birdwatchers, and the area is known for hornbills. Early-morning walks with a local guide are the best way to see and hear the forest. Ganeshgudi, near Supa Dam, is a popular base for birders.

Tips

  • Start early — the first two hours after sunrise are the most active.
  • Carry binoculars, water and closed shoes.
  • Leech socks help after rain.
